Saving Berlin’s gastronomy by buying vouchers through an online platform
With the Covid crisis, many business owners (gastronomers, club operators, theater managers, shop owners) are faced with an existential challenge. For many of them, the next four weeks will decide whether they’ll have to give up their businesses completely and file for bankruptcy. To prevent this from happening, a group formed around the Berlin entrepreneur Karsten Kossatz has developed the spontaneous support platform www.helfen.berlin for restaurants, bars, cafés, clubs, shops, hotels, and various attractions (including museums, theaters, cinemas).
Regular guests can buy vouchers that provide their favorite places with short-term liquidity support right away and can be redeemed later. If you like to eat out and would be likely to spend a weekly €50 at a particular restaurant anyway, you can now make this budget available to the restaurant ahead of time so that it can survive the crisis.
Karsten Kossatz: “My favorite restaurant and my favorite club are part of my life and I want them to continue to exist. They can’t just go bust and be replaced by some other random club.”
