Digitization is becoming an essential part in clinical settings; smartphones and tablets go from hand to hand in hospitals and therefore require to be disinfected at a regular basis -especially during the Coronavirus crisis. However, thermal disinfection or disinfection with alcohol is out of the question, as it can damage the digital tools.Â
The Fraunhofer Institut in Germany has now developed an innovative solution that disinfects cell phones and tablets with UVC LEDs. Bacteria and viruses such as SARS-CoV-2 can be removed quickly and safely within a few seconds – the disinfection rates are up to 99.9999 percent.
Moreover, this innovative solution does not only disinfect digital tools with the help of light, it also identifies them using an NFC reader; every disinfection process can be validated and clearly assigned to the respective device.
