Digital services connect villagers
What solutions does digitalization offer to the problems that rural regions are faced with? The Fraunhofer Institute IESE and Rhineland-Palatinate are testing this with the Digital Villages project. The project is centered around a platform providing access to various digital services: For example, there’s an online marketplace for local traders and crafters to offer their goods, a village radio app to encourage communication, as well as village news for everyone to stay up to date on what’s happening in their region. Even neighborly delivery services and car-sharing can be arranged via the app. This way, digital technology can strengthen social cohesion in rural communities, and support people to overcome challenges together.
